REEL #39 · COMMENT ASTRA

Every GPT-6 Astra clip. What it costs, who gets it when.

OpenAI released GPT-6 Astra on 3 September 2026. Their own line: Anything you can do on a computer, Astra can do for you. Fast. This page is every clip from the launch with timestamps, the early-tester clips, the price in dollars and in rupees, the rollout order, and the part that is locked.

THE LAUNCH VIDEO, TASK BY TASK

What the ad shows, with the timestamps

Every line below jumps to that second of OpenAI’s own video. It is a produced ad with actors on a set (Fortune calls it a staged demo), so the next section is real people.

0:01A 1979 clip from MIT opens the video: a man points at a screen and says "Create a yellow circle there." The whole ad is built on that line. 0:15"Can you draw me a small yellow circle?" 0:18"Make it the window of a rocket ship." The circle grows a body, fins and a nose cone. 0:32"Now make it a 3D model in Blender." It opens Blender itself and builds the rocket. 0:43A rainwear sales deck for retailers, built in Google Slides from a voice prompt. 0:57An eBay listing for an orange table. The photo comes from the Downloads folder, "slightly damaged" is added on request. 1:06"Make a 3D game where I'm ducking asteroids." It starts building the game. 1:15"Get me some beef and rice from that spot I ordered from last week." 1:21A licensing agreement template for a law firm, in Google Docs. 1:28"Look for a tennis court for me in the Lower East Side." It finds one at 5 PM and books it. 1:54"Make the limitation of liability more favorable to the licensor." It rewrites that one clause on the spot. 2:06He eats while the game runs on his laptop. 2:24"Make a file I can send to my 3D printer." An STL file, then a printed rocket in his hand. The man in the launch video eating while the game he asked for runs on his laptop
2:06. He eats while the game runs.

What people with access actually made

WHO GETS IT, WHEN

The rollout order, and the apology

01Day one, 3 September. Enterprises and customers in OpenAI’s Trusted Access Program (Fortune and CNBC call it the Daybreak program).
02“Over the coming days.” All ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise users, and the API and AWS. OpenAI’s words, below.
03Free plan. Nothing announced.
04Pro subscribers could not get in on day one. Sam Altman: first, sorry for the messy rollout. second, when we screw up, we try to make it right. third, we should be able to begin broad rollout to API customers and chatgpt subscribers in the near future. as usual we will start with pro subscribers.
05The make-good. Thibault Sottiaux (Tibo), OpenAI: We will give one banked reset for every day you don’t have access to Astra on your paid ChatGPT plan, starting today. A banked reset is a refill of your usage limit.
06OpenAI’s own tip. To experience Astra at its best, use the ChatGPT desktop app.
OpenAI on X: GPT-6 Astra is rolling out today to a limited set of organizations and over the coming days will become available to all ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise users

THE PART THAT IS LOCKED

Why it is rolling out slowly

Astra is the first model to meet the “Critical” cybersecurity level under OpenAI’s Preparedness Framework. Fortune reports it can find and exploit unknown security flaws without human oversight under certain conditions, so the version companies get refuses advanced cybersecurity tasks, and Daybreak customers are barred from building exploits.

It was OpenAI’s largest training run, on over 100,000 GPUs at the Stargate site in Texas. OpenAI’s president Greg Brockman, at the launch: Welcome to the AGI era.
