What costs money, exactly. The roadmaps, the guides, the project ideas and the interview questions are free. The AI tutor, the AI-generated courses and the quizzes come with a small free allowance, then a Premium plan at $10 a month. The reel says "the roadmaps are free" and means exactly that, nothing wider.

Kamran Ahmed. Pakistani. Started with a drawing, not a degree from anywhere famous.

He studied software engineering at a small university he says was not known for computer science, and started at small
software companies in Pakistan. After graduating he had one specific problem.

So he did not code the answer. He drew it, in Balsamiq, a wireframing tool designers sketch boxes in, and put the drawings on
GitHub on a weekend in March 2017. About 10,000 people starred it in the first week.
What happened after
Insight Partners bought roadmap.sh in 2022. No price was ever published. He now leads product and engineering at Insight Media Group
across three sites, roadmap.sh, The New Stack and Towards Data Science, and works on roadmap.sh full time. He lives in the UK. GitHub Star,
Google Developer Expert, 40,886 followers on GitHub. And he is still shipping: four tools for Claude Code in 2026 alone, listed below.

What the reel could not fit
6th, 7th or 8th? roadmap.sh's own homepage says "6th most starred project on GitHub" in one line and "Rank 7th out of 28M" in another. Counting live on 6 September 2026, seven repos sit above it: build-your-own-x, awesome, public-apis, freeCodeCamp, free-programming-books, openclaw and system-design-primer. That makes developer-roadmap 8th, 1,867 stars behind 7th. The reel says eighth because that is what the count said the day it was written. It will move, and when it does the number on GitHub wins.
He did not build it from Pakistan. He is Pakistani, studied there, and started his career there. He lives in the UK now. The reel says so out loud, because pretending otherwise would be a lie the comments would find in ten seconds.
"Second most starred developer on GitHub" is a line from his own author page on roadmap.sh. I could not check it independently, so the reel does not say it.
No acquisition price exists in public. Anyone quoting one is guessing.
